Hyaena

The photos in this gallery are of both the spotted hyena and the brown hyena. They have the reputaion of being scavengers, which in fact they are, but they are also relentless hunters. They live in a matriarchal society in which the heaviest female is the clan leader. The hyaena and lion are rabid ememies. A pack of hyaena may well drive a lone lion off a kill. The brown hyena tends to be nocturnal and more of a loner then the spotted who are often found in the daytime and in groups. The brown is more often found alone.
