African Raptors

Kruger National Park in South Africa, where these pictures were taken, is home to over 520 species of birds. In Kruger, you can see the entire spectrum of birds from the world's largest, the ostrich (of which we have seen quite a few) to the smallest, the bronze mannikin (which we have never seen). While Sherry and I are not true birders, we find ourselves shooting more and more as time goes along. Among the more interesting birds, at least to me, are the owls, particularly the pearl spotted, the other raptors of all kinds, the saddle billed stork and the weavers. If you're interested in birds, make sure your guide can assit you, as some concentrate on the "Big 5". Some of our more recent photos were taken in the Etosha park Namibia.

  • This photo is of a Tawny Eagle and a Bateleur. The Tawney had just killed and was eating a lizard. The Juvinile Bateleur came along and after watching for a while got too close, upseting the tawney.
  • In this photo they are getting alittle altitude.
  • This is a close up of the Bateleur. Note the diference between this juvinile and the adult seen on the next page.
  • Unique shot of a Juvinile Baltleur in flight.
