Black Bear
The photos in this gallery were taken in Yellowstone, Grand Teton, southern Montana and Redoubt Bay Alaska. Yes that's where the volcano is making noise. It wasn't when we were there. This gallery is composed of the american black bear. Unlike the brown bear the black bear can still be found in most states. The brown which once could be found coast to coast is now only seen in Alaska, Idaho, Wyoming and Montanna and only a portion of the three in the lower 48. If you look at the California flag you will see a Grizzly prominently displayed, but it's been a long time since any roamed wild in that state.

This encounter was unique. Mom chased these yr. old cubs up a tree and then accepted the advances of a male. I thought that these guys would be on their own as did the ranger. A couple of hours later she called them down and fed them. Their days are numbered but it wasn't that day.
