Black Bear
The photos in this gallery were taken in Yellowstone, Grand Teton, southern Montana and Redoubt Bay Alaska. Yes that's where the volcano is making noise. It wasn't when we were there. This gallery is composed of the american black bear. Unlike the brown bear the black bear can still be found in most states. The brown which once could be found coast to coast is now only seen in Alaska, Idaho, Wyoming and Montanna and only a portion of the three in the lower 48. If you look at the California flag you will see a Grizzly prominently displayed, but it's been a long time since any roamed wild in that state.

These two young black bear cubs were playing near calcite springs in Yellowstone. They are the offspring of a bear called Rosie. A couple of photos further along you can see the entire family. Two days after this photos was taken, (5-2008) Rosie was severaly injured defending the cubs from a large boar. While she survived as did the cinnimon cub, the little black cub did not.
