African Antelope

This gallery is composed of a multitude of African antelope, from the klipspringer to the kudu. During our (10/09) trip, we were able to increase the overall quantity, as well as the quality, of the photos in this group. We now have shots of a male and female nyala, Gemsbok, springbok, black faced impala and red hartebeest. It is with the nyala that the reference to sheep changes to that of cattle - the male nyala being much larger than the female (250lbs versus 160) is normally referred to as a bull and the female as an ewe. With the antelope larger then the nyala, such as the waterbuck, the male is a bull and the female a cow. Smaller, such as the impala, the male is a ram and the female is a ewe with the babies being lambs. Confusing isn't it? You can also probably have an argument over where the cut off is. In any case, we hope you enjoy.

  • Female Bushbuck - The bushbuck is a solitary antelope weighing in at about 130lbs for the male and 75 pounds for the female. They are difficult to photograph, as when you do see one, vegitation is often in the way. They can be found near the Tshokwane picnic area where they have become somewhat use to humans if your looking for a good shot. Kruger Park
