The photos in this gallery are all of the spotted hyaena. They have the reputaion of being scavengers, which in fact they are, but they are also relentless hunters. They live in a matriarchal society in which the heaviest female is the clan leader. The hyaena and lion are rabid ememies. A pack of hyaena may well drive a lone lion off a kill. Several of the animals in this gallery were part of a pack living in a culvert on the road up to Olifants.
